Before you make the noble move toward doggie adoption, ask yourself a few key questions to be sure you're ready for the commitment:
| • | Does anyone at home have allergies? | | • | Do you plan to handle all the responsibilities of canine care, or will they be divided among household members? | | • | Do you have the patience and dedication needed for housebreaking and training? | | • | Do you ever travel? You’ll need reliable care while you’re away. | | • | Does pet care fit into your budget? Consider annual vet exams, vaccinations, and heartworm meds, as well as the cost of food, toys, and other supplies. | | • | Does the shelter screen pets for temperament? This will increase your chances of adopting a friendly pup that is responsive to training. |
